Your Journey in Kagawa Begins Here — Takamatsu Port

We’ve been enjoying perfect sightseeing weather lately, with daytime temperatures hovering around 20°C. The other day, I had the opportunity to guide a private tour for a guest. I was surprised when I heard the pickup location — it was Takamatsu Port. The guest was traveling around Japan on a cruise ship, and when it arrived, I was even more surprised by its size. The ship was called the Azamara Pursuit. I was told it’s actually considered a smaller cruise ship, which made me even more excited to imagine what the world’s largest luxury liners must be like.
Did you know that in recent years, the number of cruise ships calling at Takamatsu Port has been rapidly increasing? In 2025, Kagawa Prefecture is expected to receive 30 cruise ship visits, with 21 of them docking at Takamatsu Port — a record high. One of the main reasons for this growth is its excellent location. Right in front of the port, you’ll find ferry terminals to the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, JR Takamatsu Station, and a bus terminal. The city center is also within walking distance, making it highly convenient and well-regarded by cruise operators.
In addition, infrastructure improvements are underway. Once the extension of the port’s quay is completed, it will be able to accommodate large cruise ships of up to 110,000 tons. Expectations are definitely rising.
As mentioned earlier, Takamatsu Port also serves as a gateway to the beautiful islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Kagawa is home to many fascinating destinations, such as Naoshima, known as the “Art Island,” and Shodoshima, famous for its olive groves and stunning landscapes.
There are also many historically interesting spots located near Takamatsu Port. Starting your journey from Takamatsu Port is one of the best ways to experience everything Kagawa has to offer.
